Working on the Blog

By Amy Earlix

One of the last blogs for the summer at ezra blogging.  Im happy that you  liked our blogs.  We worked really  hard on the blogs too. We did the best we could on these blogs. We also did these blogs to let and see what was happening at the camp, Camp ramah of califonia. Also, the manager , editor , and  leader  of the blog. Amy  ,M, Earlix helped out all the blogging staff while doing their work.  I tried to make the blog staff have the best time at the blogging. That was my job.  And I never want to loose that opportunity to do this again.  I had fun this summer doing the blog. And I hope to do it again next year 2012.

It’s Finished!

By: Shaina Barnett

I’m very proud to say that after 48 hours of scheduling, blending, and sacrificing, it is finished. The recording of Live from the Givah Volume VI is done and successfully too. Danielle Natelson couldn’t be any more proud of all the hard work she put through to make it all come together ever so nicely. I cannot wait to hear what it sounds like on my music player. The CD won’t be available for a few months, but it is worth waiting for.
In other news, last night was our final Café Ezra, an emotional one for some, in particular the Ezra graduates. But we made it count! With sugary treats, soda, music, and dancing, the café was once again a huge success. I got to dance with a lot of the staff, including our very own rosh David Abraham, Tomer from Tzevet Yisrael, Ben the camp guard, and so many others! And the karaoke didn’t disappoint. Everyone who got a chance to sing sung with so much ruach! I got to sing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”. Of all the Café Ezras we’ve had this summer, this has truly been the best one we’ve had as Ezra Staff.

Movie Making

By: Amy M. Earlix

Movie making was  very interesting.
First ,
We had to get into groups of four.
Then we had to think of a way
To have a skit about what
Really happens at camp.
It took the ezra staff  about
Three weeks to get
The filming done.
But,
About the end of that week
It was the actual filming night.
All the ezra staff were kind
Of nervous.
But,
They got  it over quicklyLuckily!

My Camp Experience

By: Jesse Gillman

My camp experience has been great for me, because I had a chance to grow and mature wall being a camper in Amitzim and now on staff in Ezra. When I came to Ramah as a camper I didn’t know anyone, but than I soon met new people and made new friends and consolers and I have had those friendships for a long time, also I have made some new friends through out the years I have been at camp.
For the Jewish part of it I have been able to experience new ways of Judaism through tfilit and silence prayer, it has changed my views on being Jewish.
People how have came form all walks of life I came to camp because it is special to those people who wanted to have   Ramah in there harts and so do I.
Conclusion:  I have had a great experience at camp and I will have Ramah in my harts because this place is home away from home and it is like my second family.

Greg "The Man" Turns 19

By: Shaina Barnett

The Man Turns 19!

Greg Fils, aka “The Man”, had just turned the ripe age of 19. For those who really know Greg and know how much he talks about BBQ sauce, his birthday present was—you guessed it—BBQ sauce. He had it with his French toast that morning. What was really interesting about Greg’s—excuse me—The Man’s birthday was the fact it landed on Dalia and when the sad day of Tisha B’Av ended. The Man may be getting older, but he still will be forever strong and winning the hearts of all the ladies.

  The Making of a Recording

Yesterday was the day I recorded with Ramacapella to make the Live from the Givah Volume VI. The equipment we used to edit the sound and record our voices were truly amazing! There were earphones that act as microphones so we can hear each and every one of our voices. For the first time in Ramacapella history, the melody went through the song L’Cha Dodi only once for recording! Although it is unknown whether they are done recording or not, many of the performers, including me, felt very proud to have their voice recorded, even if it’s only one song out of three.

The Deficit in the U.S.

By: Jesse Gillman

Source: NYTimes, Reuters

Headline: U.S. Budget Gap Hits $1.1 trillion

Into- Washington D.C. – The United States is tuning a $1.1trillion budget deficit to date in the current fiscal year, the treasury Department, said Wednesday, as lawmakers to seek extra cuts in public spending to rein in debt.

Body: The budget deficit ten month into the government’s fiscal year was $69 billion lower than the same time a year earlier, said the Treasury Department.

“The government continues to run significant deficits one reason S&P took its rating actions’’, said Thomas Simon’s money market economist with Jefferies and co in New York. The U.S. budget deficit to reach $1.4 trillion according to the congressional budget office. In July, the government posted of a budget defect of $129 billion the 134th consecutive mouth of budget shortfalls.

A special committee of Democratic and GOP lawmakers have been charged with finding $1.5 trillion in budget savings over the next decade.

Conclusion: I think if our budget system was not so confuting than it would have a much different affect on feeling of the American people about the economic.

A Very Depressing Tisha B'Av

By: Shaina Barnett

In honor--no, "honor" is the wrong choice of words. In reflecting the day Tisha B'Av, Ezra staff took a very depressing day off to the Museum of Tolerance. Learning about what hatred can do, especially in cases such as bullying, hate crimes, and the Holocaust in particular brought almost all of Ezra staff to tears. Almost everyone was holding one another. Being inside a replica concentration camp in one exhibit was the one that really hit the nail on the head. The brutality the Nazis had towards the Jewish people was unbelievable...but it was real. The blood of more than six million innocent Jews tainted Western Europe...all because of one sorry excuse of a man hated Jews for no reason. Although the trip to the museum was tearful and depressing, it's really important to know what really happened and how lucky the Jewish people of 2011 are for what we have today. Those poor people, those six million innocent unfortunate people who died nearly 70 years ago...that could have been us. Tisha B'Av is not just about fasting or just feeling sad. It's about being reflective and grateful for how far the Jewish people come through all these years. We should be proud of who we are and never let hatred to do its evil work.

Dalia Tonight!

By: Katherine

Tonight is Dalia at camp Ramah.  Every group has its own dance on the basketball court.  They dance and sing in Hebrew during Dalia. Then we join in after they say we can. It will be a fun night for the entire camp. I hope everyone enjoys it.

BBQ at camp Ramah

On Tuesday night we had our last BBQ at camp Ramah. I think that the food was nasty and gross. We had a good last BBQ as a camp. Then we said the blessing for the food. I enjoyed seating with my friends for a little bit. Then we did our own night activities with our own groups.

                                                      Greg’s birthday

On Wednesday it was Greg’s 19th Birthday. We had a cake for him to share with the ezra staff. It was really good that the cake was chocolate. Then we all had a piece of his cake. David our Rosh for ezra give him BBQ sauce as a birthday gift. I hope Greg enjoyed his birthday party at camp.

Washington D.C.- Timothy Geithnery  has told President Barack Obama that he will remain on the job as the Treasury secretary.
The Treasury Department released a statement Sunday saying Geithner had informed the president on his decision to remain in the administration. Geithner is the only remaining top official on Obama’s economic team.

Conclusion: I think that Timothy Geithnery is somewhat a person on president Obama’s economic team, that agree on economic policy. I myself find that economics is a very hard to understand.

Headline: White House: No Double Dip recession seen

Washington D.C. – President’s Obama’s spokesman is discounting talk that the economy may be headed back into recession, deistic recent concerns of economists.
Spokesman Jay Carney says “there is no question that economic growth and job creation have slowed over the past half year.
But, Carney told a white house briefing “we do not believe that there is a threat of a double dip recession”
He blamed the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, higher energy prices, defiant worries in Europe and recently resolved uncertainty over raising American’s borrowing limit.
Jay Carney said “we believe the economy will continue to growth”
Conclusion: I think if we go into another recession that it will make it than harder for many American’s to find job’s, if our political leader don’t work together on both parties it will lead to an earthquake in our American society

My work experience in the marp.  Awesome, great, fantastic, and good. I am so proud of myself for working in the marp.  I help a lot of sick people. I like checking things on my checklist. Working by myself is cool and fun. I am so helpful. The nurses and doctors are so friendly, nice, kind, awesome, and great. Ice for injures, hygiene keeping the marp clean and safe. Helping the nurses with paperwork. My experience at universal studios is going on the Jurassic park ride twice and seeing the show water world and going on the mummy ride and went on the tram ride and had lunch in the park.

Hi my name is Jake Freeman and I’m a worker at the Camp Ramah blog. This is my first blog. My first blog will be about my job on sports staff. I’m in Ezra Staff with all my friends. During my job I work with Eli M. My job is to work with every Edah. I had the pleasure meeting some new and familiar faces while working. All the kids I work with are all well behaved. I hope you enjoyed my first blog.
I also have another favorite thing I like at Camp Ramah in California. I’m really fond of the Israeli dancing on Saturday nights. The music is also extremely powerful. It sends chills through because it reminds me of Israel. I also dance to the great music. The best part is hanging with great friends.

Yesterday, for my day off I went to Universal Studios. I had so much fun with all my Ezra friends. I went on every ride at the theme park besides one.  The Simpsons ride is really creepy. My favorite ride at the theme park is Jurassic Park the Ride. The drop on the ride is 84 feet. WOW!  The ride makes my heart drop so much. There is also another ride called Revenge of the Mummy. The ride goes backwards and forwards. It also mentions it is a high speed coaster. You really should experience these rides.

My favorite edah in camp ramah in machon.  I like machon because they get to go on a five day overnight as a group.  I would like to be in machon but that may never happen. Next year,  Machon will go on seminar to Isreal or Poland.  Then they will become staff. I will get a bunch of mud hugs from all of my friends in machon.  I wish you the best of luck as your camper year ends.

My favorite staffs at Camp Ramah are all awesome in each of their own ways.  Dr. Zachary Lasker leads a beautiful Friday night Shabbat service gracefully. Deborah my Yahadut teacher leads and also teaches a wonderful class to the Ezra students. Lastly, the Ezra coordinators deserve the biggest praise!! I have become really close with two coordinators, Jake and Noa. I hope the three of us can be great friends for a long time.

I have been at Camp Ramah in California now for 3 years. I have had the pleasure of being in Amitzim. Amitzim was just the beginning Ezra is where it’s at. I have had many new and old friends since 2008.  These friends I will always cherish.

I recently made a new friend here at camp.  He is a Nitzimer named Simon. He is like a little brother to me. When he leaves I will be so sad. I will always remember him always.

New rules will demand far better fuel economy

By Jesse Gillman

Obama announces plan for doubling of fleet standard to 54.5 mpg

Source MSNBC.com President Barack Obama, with the backing of major carmakers, announced a plan Friday to boost average fuel economy of new cars and trucks to 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, double current levels.
"This agreement on fuel standards represents the single most important step we’ve ever taken as a nation to reduce our dependence on foreign oil," Obama said at a Washington event with top automaker executives and union leaders.
The new standards are the result of a compromise with the industry after the White House initially proposed even tougher requirements that would have raised the Corporate Average Fuel Economy, or CAFE, standard to 62 mpg.
The plan announced Friday calls for a fleet wide average of 54.5 mpg -- higher for cars and lower for "light trucks," a category that includes pickups and sport utility vehicles.
The current fleet standard of 27.3 for 2011 models is already scheduled to rise to 35.5 mpg in 2016. The new rules would require an additional 5 percent annual improvement in car fuel economy from 2017 to 2025. For light trucks the standard would rise 3.5 percent a year from 2017 to 2021 and 5 percent annually from 2021 to 2025.
The White House said the new rules have won the backing of automakers representing 90 percent of vehicles sold in the United States.
Some automakers and analysts have warned that technology required by the new standards will add thousands of dollars to the cost of a typical new car. But the White House says that will be offset by savings at the pump, which it said would average $8,000 over the life of a  vehicle by 2025.
One environmental group welcomed the new standards but said they could have been even better.
The group, The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, also pointed out that actual mileage achieved by cars and light trucks in the 2020s will be much lower than the published CAFE standards, which are based on laboratory tests rather than real road performance.
"This is a major step in reducing our oil dependence and consumers' vulnerability to high gasoline costs," said Therese Langer, transportation program director for the ACEEE. "By 2030, this round of standards could save more oil than we currently import from Saudi Arabia and Iraq, combined."
But she added that the announced standards "could be eroded" in the rule-making process before they are finalized.
"The next several months will be crucial to ensuring that the benefits this program promises are realized," she said.

I think this is good for our environment because if this plan goes into effect then it makes our driving ways safer for American drivers all across the county.
